    I adore this! Maybe for just the reason you stated, the variety of rhythm and rhyme and how you’ve made it all come together in your poem.

    *Now I can only imagine warming my cold hands in front of your beautiful Autumn fire!

    I find it very descriptive, filled with images, metaphors, and historical references. Exact rhyme and meter would, in my opinion, spoil this particular poEM.

    This is no pome, this is wonderful poetry filled with everything. The last three lines sum it all up, our fascination with fire. You can’t burn leaves where I live…I miss the smell that says winter is on its way.

    Wuoh or Wuho or Wow! I like this one. I love that eerie moment that arises so unexpectedly as the poem emerges … the fire the energy the universe suddenly speaking to you “I do not change” and then meeting eye to eye. It’s really awesome and cool. I love to delve into the depths of thought and then find you have soared instead for a moment, or, who knows, for eternity. This is unexpected Gran. You have plunged into a new realm of reality. So cool to be along for the ride. Yikes! Fun to be red hot, isn’t it? Enjoy it for as long as you can. It’s great.

    Oh, not to be a fallen leaf, now that Autumn’s here.

    Now then, when you go to sweep the ashes into the wheelbarrow will your Neanderthal Man, or his earlier edition, be swapping yarns with you about inventing the wheel? lol There has to be a part 2 to this. C’mon GJ I know you can do it!
